Junior rugby league match day

Mark who's here, set your team and tap Start Game. Kickd tracks each player's minutes, your interchanges and the score. It helps you share the FR and DH vests, and after the whistle parents vote Players' Player.

Set up once, at home

About 10 minutes. Do it before game day.

Before your first game checklist: add your players, check the format, set your lineup, run the Practice Game, share the join link
The BEFORE YOUR FIRST GAME list on HOME ticks off each step.
  1. Create your team

Open Kickd and sign in. Tap Create Team, then enter the team name, the sport (Rugby League) and the age group off your rego.

The age group sets your team size, game format and vest rules for you.

  2. Add your players

Go to the TEAM tab at the bottom of the screen. Tap + Add Player and enter a name and shirt number. That's your whole roster, and you can add or edit players any week.

  3. Check the format

On the same TEAM tab, check the AGE GROUP. It locks after your first match, so fix it now if it's wrong.

Game length starts at league defaults. If your comp plays it differently, change it under FORMAT (U6 to U9) or HALF TIME (U10 to U11).

The TEAM tab on a U11 team: age group, half time, training days, match clock, season dates and players' player
The TEAM tab on a U11 team: age group, half time, match clock and players' player.
  4. Invite parents and helpers

On the TEAM tab, tap Share Join Link under INVITE PARENTS/GUARDIANS and send it to your team chat. Parents follow the score live on their own phones. The link is for adults only.

Want a helper to run the clock and log the game? Tap Share PA Link under PERFORMANCE ANALYSTS. They join as your Performance Analyst and run the live screen while you coach.

Borrowing a player for the day? Tap + Add Guest Player. Guests play and get minutes but stay out of your season stats.

League defaults. Under FORMAT, U6 to U7 can play 2 × 10 min and U8 to U9 can play 2 × 15 min. Under HALF TIME, U10 to U11 can play 15-minute Mod League halves.

Practice first. Not sure you're ready? On HOME, tap Start Practice Game: a pretend match on a sped-up clock. Nothing is saved and parents see nothing, so run as many as you like before game day.

Your three free matches include every stat, so you can see what Team Stats adds before you choose a pass.

2

Before kick-off

About 60 seconds on the sideline.

  1. Mark who's here

On the home screen, tap any player who didn't turn up to grey them out. Everyone else is in.

Type the other team's name under OPPONENT if you like. It shows on the live screen.

  2. Set your team

Tap Set Lineup. U10 to U12: fill positions for the start of the game, or tap Auto fill. You only set the start. Each later period carries on from your live field.

U6 to U9: there are no positions. Rotation alerts tell you who comes off and who goes on. See Interchanges.

U8 to U12: set the FR and DH vests in the VESTS row on the same screen. See FR and DH vests.

Jerseys changed this week? Under the field, THIS WEEK'S NUMBERS lets you change any shirt number for this game. Last week's numbers carry over, a taken number swaps so there's never a clash, and ↻ AUTO numbers your starting side by position.

Set Lineup: VESTS H1 with FR on #7 Bob and DH on #4 George, above the field with 11 of 11 players assigned
Vests set for the first half, with FR and DH badges on the field.
  3. Tap Start Game

The clock runs. For U10 to U12, Kickd takes you to the lineup screen first if your starting side isn't set.

3

On the field

The live screen.

  1. Log your points

On a phone, tap the US + SCORE cell, pick the score, then tap who scored. Kickd does the maths and keeps the running score.

On a tablet, tap the score in the stats column, then the player.

US score menu: Try +4, Conversion +2, Penalty Goal +2, Field Goal +1
The US score menu lists every score with its points.
  2. Log their points

Tap the THEM + SCORE cell and pick the score. No names needed.

  3. Fix a mistake

U10 to U12: on a phone, tap the UNDO cell on the field. U6 to U9: on a phone, long-press the US or THEM score cell to take back that side's last score.

On a tablet, tap Undo in the match log. Or say "undo".

On the live field, UNDO sits beside the halfback.
  4. Keep it fair

Every player shows their minutes played, on the field and on the bench. Anyone getting too much game time turns amber, so you can spot it at a glance.

If a player can't go on

U6 to U9: long-press them and choose Mark Unavailable, then tap a bench player to take their place. For a no-show, choose Not Here - Mark Absent. It clears their minutes.

U10 to U12: long-press opens a short menu. Choose Unavailable, Absent - Not Here or HIA, then tap a bench player to fill the spot.

Fairness on the record

Junior matches (U6 to U12) get a Fairness % plus a season chart on the stats screen.

1ST HALF FAIRNESS card: needs attention, with four players who need more minutes
After the first half, the fairness card lists who needs more minutes.

Match stats, U10 to U12

Junior matches log the score and minutes.

On Team Stats, a U10 to U12 team can turn on EXTENDED STATS on the TEAM tab. It adds tackles, errors, line breaks and the rest of the senior stats, except sin bins, send-offs and On Report, which start at U13. With it on, a conversion asks GOAL or MISSED, and Kickd tracks possession, the tackle count and completion %. It works best on a tablet. The rugby league seniors sheet covers them.

Interchanges

U10 to U12 plan interchanges. U6 to U9 get rotation alerts.

U10 to U12: planned interchanges

  1. Plan them before the game

On the lineup screen, open the IC tab and tap + Add Interchange. Pick who comes off, who goes on and the minute. You can plan up to 10.

The IC 2/10 tab with two planned interchanges, at 10 and 15 minutes, and + Add Interchange
Two interchanges planned, at 10 and 15 minutes.
  2. Make them when they're due

On a phone, INTERCHANGE NOW shows at the top of the screen when one is due. Tap Accept to make it, or Skip.

On a phone or tablet, the PLANNED INTERCHANGES list under the field marks it NOW. Tap Interchange to make it, or Cancel to skip it.

INTERCHANGE NOW at minute 10: #3 Sarah off, #23 Zoe on, with Accept and Skip
When one is due, tap Accept or Skip.
  3. Swap on the go

Tap a player on the field, then a bench player. Every swap updates everyone's minutes. The counter shows interchanges used out of 10. Going over only warns you.

The unbroken-half law. Every U10 to U12 player must play at least one unbroken half. Kickd warns you, it never blocks a sub.

At half time, the UNBROKEN HALF card lists who still needs one, so you can give them the whole second half. It also shows who is on track and should stay on.

FR and DH vests

U8 to U12. Set at the start and at every break.

The 2026 NRL Junior Laws have U8 to U12 share the First Receiver and Dummy Half roles, marked by vests. Kickd plans them on the lineup screen and shows FR and DH badges on the live field.

VestRole
FRFirst Receiver: takes the first pass from the play-the-ball
DHDummy Half: acting half at the ruck

U8 wears FR only. U9 to U12 wear both. U6 and U7 have no vests.

Rotate them every period

The clock

Stoppages, early whistles, late arrivals.

7

Full time

No rush at the huddle.

End the game and pick your player

  1. At full time, tap End Game at the top of the screen. The match ends straight away.

  2. Pick your Player of the Match on the results screen when you've got a moment. You've got an hour after the whistle, and Kickd sends a reminder if you haven't picked.

Call it in by voice

Kickd Callout comes with every pass, at every age.

  1. Pick your mic

On HOME, tap Bluetooth headset or Phone mic (Tablet mic on a tablet). A headset with a boom mic holds up in crowd noise. The phone or tablet mic suits training or a quiet ground, and you tap the mic button each time you want it to listen.

Home: Which mic for this game? Bluetooth headset or Phone mic
Pick the mic on HOME before the game.
  2. Arm the mic

If you picked a mic on HOME, it arms itself at the start of play. Otherwise tap the mic button in the top bar. Red means it's logging what it hears, and the bar shows what it heard and what it logged.

  3. Mute when you step away

Tap the mic again to mute for sideline chats or stoppages. On the phone or tablet mic, press and hold to mute. Nothing logs while it's muted. The mic stays armed through the break and switches off at full time.

Which headset

A Bluetooth headset keeps you hands-free, with your eyes on the game, so one person can log the whole match by voice. Most Bluetooth headsets work, and coaches have even used smart glasses, but results vary with noise cancelling. The Shokz OpenComm 2 boom mic is the best tested on a noisy sideline.

Mix taps and voice freely. Undo fixes either.

Voice comes with every pass. On Team Pass you call everything on this list: the scores, FR and DH vests, head bin (U10 to U12), interchanges, rotate now (U6 to U9), pause and undo. U10 to U12 teams with Extended Stats switched on hear the senior list instead, apart from sin bin, off field, sent off and on report (U13+). Vests and head bin still work. On Team Stats their conversions ask goal or missed, and an opposition score needs the ball their set ended on ("them try three"). See the seniors sheet.
